Water is fundamental to meeting the commitments of the Paris Agreement and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/span><\/span> Our economies depend on water, with recent estimates putting the economic value of water and freshwater ecosystems at $58 trillion, equivalent to 60% of global GDP.<\/span><\/span> At the same time, water-related risks are increasing in frequency and scope in the context of climate change. <\/span><\/span>How do investments influence the exposure of our economies and societies to water risk?<\/span><\/span> What role can the financial system play in supporting water security? <\/span><\/span>And how can a greater understanding of how finance impacts and depends on water resources stimulate action towards greater water security? <\/span><\/span>This will be discussed at the next OECD LIVE Green Talks to provide a picture of the evolving landscape for assessing water risks for the financial system. <\/span><\/span>OECD policy analyst Lylah Davies will present key findings and recommendations from recent OECD work on assessing the financial relevance of water-related risks, including the recently published paper \u201cWatered down?<\/span><\/span> Investigating the financial relevance of water-related risks\u201d.<\/span><\/span> Invited experts will come together to discuss relevant ongoing initiatives.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
